There are a lot of treatments out there for pain management. This Thanksgiving we’re thankful for three therapies, physical therapy, acupuncture, and MicroVas. Through studying them, our pain specialists have helped many people live pain free. Each has its own unique reasons as to why it deserves a standing ovation. If you’re in pain, have hope — you can feel better, perhaps with one of these treatments, and some extra whipped cream on your apple pie this holiday.
Through Physical therapy, physical therapists help treat injuries or disabilities with electrical stimulation and tests. They also teach patients exercises that reduce pain. Physical therapists are well versed in movement and help people who are struggling gain flexibility and stronger joints and muscles, often completely naturally. People who are suffering with everything from back pain and bulging discs to arthritis or simple sports injuries, can benefit from treatment. Did you know … between the 1500s and the 1700s, exercise as a way to treat muscle and bone disorders and disabilities was used? Yes, physical therapy in a sense dates that far back.
In this video, a patient talks about her experience with physical therapy for chronic lower back pain here at Performance Rehabilitation and Integrated Medicine.
Acupuncture is among one of the oldest healing practices in the world and can be traced back at least 2500 years. It uses hair-thin, disposable needles to stimulate specific areas associated with organ functions in order to restore balance and help the body maintain its own health. Chinese medicine identifies more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected with pathways called meridians that conduct vital energy or Qi throughout the body. Illness or symptoms can be associated with an imbalance of vital energy. Acupuncture has been used to treat a wide array of pain including pain caused by fibromyalgia and arthritis. It has been used to treat joint, back, and neck pain and can also be used to care of those annoying headaches you suffer from.
A little less known but still beneficial for the right candidates, MicroVas is commonly used on people who have peripheral neuropathy. It may help reduce or get rid of the following symptoms all together: burning, tingling, sharp, and stabbing pains in the legs and feet. Many patients find that this treatment restores their quality of life. We are thankful for being able to practice this treatment to get patients back to living normally. This is a much newer therapy. While we’re not able to pinpoint exactly when it came around, based on our studies, we believe it did not originate until the 20th century. Here are a few testimonials from our patients:
“…I was on different medications for 4 years without any improvement…”
“The numbness and tingling in my feet and the shooting pain down both my legs were getting unbearable. I was on different medications for 4 years without any improvement and the numbness and tingling was getting worse. I completed the MicroVas treatments and the numbness in my feet that used to be constant is now reduced and only occasional. Also, the shooting pain down my legs and into my feet is completely gone!”

“…I can now dance with my wife…”
“I developed peripheral neuropathies in both my feet following chemotherapy radiation. The neurologist prescribed a bunch of different drugs, but I was allergic to all of them and stopped taking all oral medications. Before MicroVas, I had numbness and weakness in my feet, my balance was poor, and I had no sensitivity to water temperature. After MicroVas, I’ve had much better balance, I can feel water temperature, and I have much more feeling in my feet. I can even dance with my wife! Overall, my improvement in my feet is about 80% better.”
